magazine into is a long-term publishing initiative dedicated to the study and documentation of contemporary Chinese design. Since 2019, the project has adopted printed matter, exhibitions, and other cultural formats as its primary media, and has developed thematic issues such as Sketch, MADE-LAND, almost famous, and ROOTED. Through these lenses, the project seeks to articulate the particular conditions of design in China within broader social contexts, cultural comparisons, and individual narratives.

Founded in March 2018 in Xiamen, subfictions is a research-led cultural and design practice committed to content-driven inquiry. The studio conducts interviews, field investigations, and long-form research, translating its findings into brand narratives, visual systems, publications, exhibitions, and other interdisciplinary outputs. subfictions is also the originating body behind magazine into, a publishing endeavour that approaches design culture with a long-term, measured, and rigorously observational perspective. Its practice extends naturally into books, exhibitions, cultural editions, and collaborative projects that further explore the layered realities of contemporary design.
